Last week, Linsey did a great post here about how you, the attendees of RE BarCamp OC, will be contributing the content of the event and gave you details on how to pre-submit what you want to talk about. It is such an essential part of the RE BarCamp experience that we sent out an email to all registered attendees this week soliciting your session topics and reminding you that they need to be pre-submitted. If you didn’t get the email, then you aren’t yet registered – go do so now here!
As a reminder, here is the email that was sent out. Send us your topics!

OPEN CALL FOR SESSION TOPICS – We Are Doing Things Different This Time
Hello RE BarCamp Participant -
The big day is rapidly approaching and we are looking forward to everyone coming together next Thursday, August 19th for RE BarCamp Orange County.
This is an important email regarding the sessions that will be happening at RE BarCamp OC. As in most RE BarCamp’s, the schedule will be set the day of the event, by the attendees. However, for our event, we’re adjusting things a little bit. All sessions must be PRE-SUBMITTED (Form to submit is located HERE). Note that NO topics will be accepted for voting the day of RE BarCamp. When participants arrive at the event, they will be given the opportunity to vote on which pre-submitted sessions they want to make up the schedule.
Session topics are due by midnight, Tuesday August 17th. This will allow event coordinators a day to get all sessions into a uniform format that is easy to read and ready for voting.
When you check into RE BarCamp on the 19th, you’ll be handed a sheet of stickers and can use to vote for the sessions that you want to attend. The top voted sessions will make the board. Voting will open at 8:00 am and close at 9:45 am. Arrive in enough time to have your vote heard.
Tell us what you want to learn! Tell us what conversations you want to have. Take the lead and say “I’ll facilitate this topic.” You don’t have to be the expert. If others are interested in the topic, they will vote for the session, and since it isn’t a presentation, you can simply lead the discussion.
IMPORTANT NOTE: In keeping with the culture of RE BarCamp, sessions are intended to be a conversation, not a presentation or a sales pitch. If you are facilitating a topic, this is not an opportunity to pitch products or services or grandstand. DON’T SELL!
So what do you want to learn about?
- Facebook Fan Pages?
- Twitter?
- Social Media Strategy?
- Mobile Technologies?
- Lead Generation?
- RPR?
- What to Look for in a Good Real Estate Website?
- How to Not Waste Time on Social Media?
Tell us! Submit your session now.
Also, we assume it goes without saying, but if you are going to submit a session, you need to attend so if your session wins the popular vote, you can facilitate it.
Please help us spread the word:
- Make sure your friends have RSVP’d so they can receive important updates like this one. (there is a button above that let’s you invite them…use it!)
- Be sure to check out the event website where we have been updating the event details like
- The day’s time schedule
- parking info
- directions
- and more…
See you next week!

Topics I would like to attend or participate in :
*Cool phones besides iPhones. Android models that people have & like?
*Mobile marketing applications – QR Codes, MSTags, SMS or MMS – what is working?
*IDX – What makes good IDX – default map search or list search? Forced registration or not?
*SEO – always good topic and always changing.
*Mobile check ins – Gowalla, 4Square, any business use, or just for fun?
All of the suggested topics in the list on this post are great and can be expanded to cover a lot more depth.
I’m looking forward to many interesting discussions on Thursday!
