Because it’s got some good info in it detailing out what you need to know for tomorrow, we’ve posted it here for your reference. RE BarCamp is just a few hours away…see you soon!
Attire: The event is casual. Come comfortable.
Location: UCI Student Center at UC Irvine – A311 Student Center, Irvine, CA 92697. Map and driving directions here. There will also be directional signs on campus helping you find the event location.
Parking: Please plan on parking at the UCI Student Center parking garage (directly accross from the event location). Pay the $8 bucks – We’d hate to have this free event cost you a tow for your vehicle. The $8 is well worth it.
Attendee Check-In:
- Check-In: Registration opens at 8:00. For new attendees, Barcamp Bootcamp begins at 8:30. The day officially kicks off at 9:00 and goes until 4:15.
- Arrival: When you arrive, please check-in at the registration desk to pick up your name badge and your important stickers for voting on sessions.

- 11:45 – 1:30 pm: Lunch on your own (several options available within walking distance)
- 1:30 – 2:15 pm: Session 3

- 4:15 pm: Happy Hour at the Anthill Pub & Grille (upstairs from the event)

Call for Session Topics!
Last week, Linsey did a great post here about how you, the attendees of RE BarCamp OC, will be contributing the content of the event and gave you details on how to pre-submit what you want to talk about. It is such an essential part of the RE BarCamp experience that we sent out an email to all registered attendees this week soliciting your session topics and reminding you that they need to be pre-submitted. If you didn’t get the email, then you aren’t yet registered – go do so now here!

OPEN CALL FOR SESSION TOPICS – We Are Doing Things Different This Time
Hello RE BarCamp Participant -
The big day is rapidly approaching and we are looking forward to everyone coming together next Thursday, August 19th for RE BarCamp Orange County.
This is an important email regarding the sessions that will be happening at RE BarCamp OC. As in most RE BarCamp’s, the schedule will be set the day of the event, by the attendees. However, for our event, we’re adjusting things a little bit. All sessions must be PRE-SUBMITTED (Form to submit is located HERE). Note that NO topics will be accepted for voting the day of RE BarCamp. When participants arrive at the event, they will be given the opportunity to vote on which pre-submitted sessions they want to make up the schedule.
Session topics are due by midnight, Tuesday August 17th. This will allow event coordinators a day to get all sessions into a uniform format that is easy to read and ready for voting.
When you check into RE BarCamp on the 19th, you’ll be handed a sheet of stickers and can use to vote for the sessions that you want to attend. The top voted sessions will make the board. Voting will open at 8:00 am and close at 9:45 am. Arrive in enough time to have your vote heard.
Tell us what you want to learn! Tell us what conversations you want to have. Take the lead and say “I’ll facilitate this topic.” You don’t have to be the expert. If others are interested in the topic, they will vote for the session, and since it isn’t a presentation, you can simply lead the discussion.
IMPORTANT NOTE: In keeping with the culture of RE BarCamp, sessions are intended to be a conversation, not a presentation or a sales pitch. If you are facilitating a topic, this is not an opportunity to pitch products or services or grandstand. DON’T SELL!

Lend Your Voice to REBarCampOC
We’ll be handling the selection of sessions a little different for this barcamp. If you are interested in leading a session, you must submit ahead of time. Attendees will vote on the sessions that they want to attend the morning of RE BarCamp OC. The top voted sessions will make up the schedule for the day.
Simply submit your session proposal on the site. All sessions need to be pre-submitted so that we can prepare the voting process in advance of the event. Depending on the sessions submitted, the coordinators may contact you about combining forces with others interested in facilitating discussions on similar topics.
Part of what makes a wonderful BarCamp experience are those that take the initiative to lead a conversation. If you are willing to facilitate a session, we’d need to hear from you. You don’t need to be the expert; you only need to be willing to take the initiative to facilitate the session. There are likely others that can be pulled into a session to help contribute to the conversation.
Schedule of Events
Although the content for the day will be determined the morning or RE BarCamp, here is an outline of the day so you know when to arrive, and also can plan to attend happy hour 
- 8:00 am: Registration opens
- 8:00 am: Session voting opens (see details here about this process)
- 8:30 – 9:00 am: BarCamp BootCamp Session – New or confused by RE BarCamp? This session will demystify the concept, orient you to the day, and show you how to get the most out of your RE BarCamp experience. More details here.
- 9:00 – 9:10 am: Welcome message
- 9:45 am: Session voting closes
- 10:00 – 10:45 am: Session 1
- 11:00 – 11:45 am: Session 2
- 11:45 – 1:30 pm: Lunch on your own (several options available within walking distance)

Parking for REBarCamp Orange County
There are some parking details that we want you to be aware of for Orange County’s REBarCamp on August 19th. Please plan to pay $8.00 for full day parking in the parking garage across the street from the UCI Student Center where the event is being held. Alternatively, you can pay $3/hour. Feel free to view the campus map (our event is located in the blue section), but there will also be signage directing you within the UCI campus.
There will be a parking attendant on duty beginning at 8:00, however if there isn’t one there at the time of your arrival, you will be able to pay at the machines within the garage utilizing a debit card, credit card, or cash.
Please be aware – do not park in the University Town Center or in any unauthorized parking areas on campus – you will be ticketed or towed.
If you have not registered on the Eventbrite site yet, make sure you save you spot today.
RE BarCamp Bootcamp: A Crash Course In Getting The Most Out of RE BarCamp OC
Are you confused by the format of RE BarCamp? No worries…help is here! If RE BarCamp is totally new to you, or you are unclear how to navigate the unstructured “un-conference” format of the day, be sure to attend RE BarCamp BOOTCAMP – a special session designed to orient you to the RE BarCamp experience and help you get the most out of the day. This special session will start at 8:30 am SHARP and run for ½ hour. Registration opens at 8:00 am which give you plenty of time to check in, get your coffee, and get set to rock RE BarCamp OC.

Yes it’s true, we are back for round two! And, we are excited to be back at a great new venue that will accommodate a bigger crowd. RE BarCamp OC will be held August 19, 2010 at the University of California Irvine Student Center. We are still pulling together the details but you do not want to miss this event.
